CLF Delivers Taiwan’s First 5000-Ton Injection Molding Machine to US Logistics Leader & Previews TaipeiPLAS 2026

The North American logistics and retail supply chain relies heavily on durable, large-scale plastic bulk bins to keep goods moving. To meet this massive demand, Chuan Lih Fa Machinery Works Co., Ltd. (CLF) has officially shipped the CLF-5000TPII to a top-tier US logistics equipment supplier.

Marking a historic milestone as Taiwan’s first 5000-ton ultra-large two-platen injection molding machine, this system represents the pinnacle of CLF’s 60 years of heavy-industrial manufacturing expertise. Designed entirely in-house, the machine provides a high-ROI, high-volume production solution that addresses the modern manufacturing challenges of facility space limits, energy costs, and production stability.

The CLF-5000TPII, Taiwan's first 5000-ton two-platen injection molding machine, at Chuan Lih Fa's plant in Tainan before shipment to a top-tier U.S. logistics and retail equipment supplier, where it will produce heavy-duty plastic bulk bins.

Three Engineering Breakthroughs for Heavy-Tonnage Manufacturing

Building a 5000-ton system pushes the limits of standard manufacturing facilities. By utilizing our dedicated ultra-large overhead crane systems and a specialized bay of six heavy milling tools, CLF engineered a machine that redefines large-scale production efficiency.

1. Optimizing Factory Real Estate: The Two-Platen Advantage

Facility floor space is a premium asset. When evaluating the architectural benefits of two-platen vs. three-platen injection molding machines, the two-platen design offers clear spatial advantages. By utilizing an advanced two-platen clamping architecture instead of a traditional toggle linkage, the CLF-5000TPII shrinks the machine’s overall footprint by 15% to 20% compared to equivalent-tonnage toggle machines. This allows global buyers to drastically optimize their initial capital expenditure (CAPEX) on plant space.

Additionally, because ultra-large machines often face factory ceiling height restrictions that complicate overhead crane operations, CLF engineered a highly customized side-entry mold loading design. This consultative approach solves major mold-change bottlenecks before the machine even reaches the client's floor. It is a proven approach that builds directly upon our innovative two-platen technology that revolutionizes plastic pallet production, ensuring high-efficiency volume output for large logistics containers.

2. Slashing OPEX and Meeting ESG Goals

Heavy-tonnage injection molding traditionally requires massive electricity consumption. As multinational manufacturers face strict low-carbon transition goals and rising energy costs, CLF built energy efficiency directly into the CLF-5000TPII’s DNA.

Equipped with an electric-servo charging system and far-infrared heating elements, the machine minimizes wasted heat radiation. Long-term process data confirms that this setup reduces power consumption by 20% to 50% during volume production compared to conventional hydraulic systems, allowing operators to maintain strict control over their operating expenditures (OPEX).

3. Precision Control for 42 kg Payloads

Manufacturing massive bulk bins comes with a high risk of material shrinkage and deformation if cavity pressure fluctuates during the cooling phase. To combat this, CLF reinforced the platens for maximum rigidity, ensuring they can withstand the repeated high-speed impacts of molds weighing tens of tons.

Our process engineering team implemented a precise "low injection speed, high holding pressure" strategy to lock cavity pressure firmly in place. Furthermore, while the US client’s current specification called for a 30 kg part, CLF proactively engineered the machine to handle up to 42 kg. This built-in headroom guarantees the client has ample flexibility for future product-line upgrades without needing new equipment.

A Milestone for Taiwan's Precision Machinery

"We did not build this machine to prove how big we can go, but to answer our client's ambitious blueprint," states Jenny Lin, Marketing Director at CLF. "The successful shipment of this 5000-ton machine is the world's affirmation of Taiwan's heavy machinery manufacturing capability. Moving forward, we will continue to serve as a long-term strategic partner to multinational clients in production-line planning and cost optimization."
